Wanko Soba Noodle Eating Contest in Niimi

Today, I would like to introduce to you the “Wanko Soba Eating Contest” in Niimi. At this event, contestants compete to eat as much soba noodles as possible in a set amount of time. I think this is the most interesting event ever.
Kusama district located in Niimi city is known as the producer of soba or buckwheat. Every September, there is a soba eating contest. The contest organizers prepare soba noodles not only for the contestants, but also for distributing to other guests attending the event.
Near the event site are various shops that sell local goods. At these shops, vegetables, fruits, and snacks made with buckwheat are sold. Just so you know, the champion of this year’s contest was a female contestant who ate whopping 88 bowls of soba noodles in just 8 minutes.
