Kagura
Kagura is a traditionally Shinto-based theatrical dance. Over the years, various styles of Kagura have developed throughout the country. The Izumo-style, which was founded in the Chugoku region, is more secular and performed among the common public (while the original Miko-style was held for nobility).
While traditional Kagura performances last up to 10 hours, people can enjoy shorter, 1 to 2 hour performances at local festivals or celebrations in the Okayama area.
The town of Yakage held a Kagura event this past month in order to increase public engagement and interest in the unique type of theater.
