Okayama Uraja festival
Uraja is a popular Japanese dance form that combines traditional and modern dance techniques to tell the story of Kibitsuhiko (often interpreted as an Oni, or demon).
Dancers of all ages join local groups and practice throughout the year in order to prepare for the Momotaro Festival in Okayama city. The festival is held in early August and the streets are filled with Uraja dancers, market stalls, and excited locals.
Despite the oppressive heat, the dedicated dancers perform all weekend with smiles on their faces. The fun music and dance moves help energize the city during the draining, hot days of the summer.
