Okayama’s Peaches and Grapes

When I think of Okayama’s best-known specialty foods, first two that come to mind are Okayama’s grapes and peaches. These fruits come in season in July and August. Okayama produces many types of grapes and peaches. Although they are all delicious, the most famous are the Muscat and Pione Grapes, and Shimizu Peaches. Today, I will introduce Shimizu Peaches and Momotaro Grapes to you.

First, let me tell you about Momotaro Grapes. As seen in the picture, each grape is big and shaped like a peach; it is almost too pretty to eat. These are very sweet, with sweetness level of 19 degrees Brix. As soon as you put the juicy fruit in your mouth, you will experience a sweetness you have never tasted from any other grapes.

Next, let me tell you about the Shimizu white peaches. Shimizu Peaches have delicate skin that is white and almost translucent. When you peel off the beautiful skin with your fingers, a juicy flesh of the fruit is exposed. Take a big bite and it melts in your mouth! The sweet scent of the peach instantly spread in your mouth.

You absolutely must try Okayama’s peaches and grapes.
